As filter material our preference is for Sintered Metal as used in our SMF-CRT and SMF-AR filters. These SMF filters were granted the Environmental Award in 2003.Due to the design of these SMF filters they have a much larger filter area compared with ceramic or silicon carbide filters so the cleaning intervals are up to 3 x longer. In addition these filters catch the solid particles on the outside of the filter material so they can be easily cleaned in a normal car workshop with water using a normal high pressure cleaner. The ceramic filters need to be baked in an oven at a temperature that is high enough to burn remaining soot and, after cooling down, cleaned with pressurized air.
The mass efficiency of a Sinter Metal filter is >97%.
